Red Rock Alameda and Moraga Summer 2025 Beach Program

Welcome to one of the Northern California's best beach programs!

Red Rock Alameda club team players don't need to tryout and are automatically accepted into our program.  Many of our indoor players play beach during the summer as part of our training.

Red Rock Alameda/Moraga Beach Volleyball provides comprehensive technical and tactical instruction in competitive beach volleyball.  With training locations in both Alameda and Moraga, we provide a great learning environments for any player, from a college prospect to someone brand new to the sand.

Our program is OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS IN ANY CLUB through TRYOUTS AND EVALUATIONS

Our program begins late May and runs through the summer.  You don't need to be here all summer, but we ask for at least a 4 week commitment.

You do NOT need to have a partner to be part of our program, and your partner doesn't need to be at practice.   We do our best to pair players together.  Being part of a beach club allows you to practice and meet other players.

The best situation is to sign up for the FULL SUMMER PROGRAM, and come to as much as you can, however, if you know that there are times you'll be on vacation or travelling, we offer a pro-rated weekly program.

The weeks don't need to be consecutive, and it is a 4 week minimum.

Our Coaching Staff Includes Our Red Rock Coaches and College Players

Janice Harrer,

St Mary’s College Beach Head Coach, Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame

We are excited to have Janice Harrer (Opalinski) return to coach and help guide our program.

Janice is one of the most experienced and successful beach volleyball players of all-time, with a career that spanned 18 seasons. She racked up 25 professional titles across the AVP, WPVA, and FIVB Tours, and won a host of awards including a WPVA Defensive Player of the Year award in 1990. She also owns 13 combined U.S. and World Championships.

All of those years spent on pro tours helped her land one of the highest honors during the peak of beach volleyball on a national scale: being named an Olympic alternate for the 1996 Summer Olympics, the first season beach volleyball was included as an Olympic sport. She qualified as an alternate with her partner at the time, Gayle Stammer.

Harrer’s career ended shortly thereafter, and in 2012 she was named to the Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame, the ultimate recognition for one of the best beach volleyball careers the sport has seen.

Harrer has been at St Mary’s College for two seasons, helping the team to a third place finish at the WCC Tournament in 2024. She has led her program to 34 wins over the past two seasons, making her the third winningest coach in program history. She is on pace to break the program win record in the 2025 season.

Janice loves the game and her role as a coach to mentor these young women, student-athletes, through the vehicle of volleyball. Janice’s daughter Hawley also played at St Mary’s for 5 years, and was a coach for Red Rock Beach. Coincidently, Janice and Eddie are both Dana Hills High School alumni, although they never crossed path’s there but had the same cross country/track coach, Tim Butler.

I want to emphasize in my coaching a good mindset about mistakes or bad games/ practices. I think it’s really important to be able to forgive yourself and accept good and bad performances as a growth opportunity. I think that’s a skill that will help you in life whether or not you pursue volleyball at the next level.
